My Little Story
Breeding pixels since 1989
I’m a hobbyist photographer born in France, I’m currently based in Luxembourg.
As a child I took my first pictures with a black box from 1930 and I still have the resulting wobbly, blurry prints somewhere. My interest in photography was sparked when my parents bought me my first AE SLR camera in the early 80's, an Olympus OM-20, and I loved it. My holiday snaps often showed a strong sense of composition and that was the beginning of my growing interest in photography.
A trip to San Francisco in 2002 gave me the opportunity to switch to digital. I bought a Nikon Coolpix 885, this 3MP compact was always in my pocket, it was a fantastic camera to really start learning how to capture the world around me. I think the ability to take as many photos as I wanted without having to pay to have them developed got me hooked. I was hooked. Technically, I quickly reached the limits of what a compact can do, especially with fast-moving subjects and low light. A trek in the Southern Alps marked the end of my Nikon's life when I fell into a river.
In 2007 I was looking for a "take anywhere" camera, my choice was one of the smaller digital cameras on the market, the Coolpix P1, at 8MP it was the first digital camera with built-in WiFi connectivity (which I ended up not using due to a serious security hole in the client software).
The frustration of capturing the beauty of an entire landscape led me to "Panorama Factory", a software that creates high-quality panoramas from a series of overlapping digital images. Because it needs to line everything up precisely to get the biggest image and better resolution, I naturally turned to gigapixel capture hardware.
When a four-thirds camera came along, I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1. It offers pretty decent quality for the price. I've never really been one to follow the 'legends' of photography. My expectation was to be able to take interesting pictures with limited equipment and exotic lenses.
After the Lumix G1, most of them were from Panasonic, including the DMC-GF3, DMC-GF6. Then I was interested with a new sensor coming from SIGMA, the Foveon, I used the DP2, the colours were fantastic but the shutter was too low to shoot in low light or high speed subject. It was time to get serious and I bought my first full frame camera, a Canon 5D Mark II. I did a lot of travelling with it, my only complaint was the weight. This camera is not light... I was looking at the sony cameras since years and during a trip I New York, I did the swap and go the an old sony, today my main camera is the Sony Alpha II.
Photography is a dream, a way of life, my passion and inner creativity.
